DEFINITION
Liposuction is a surgical procedure which is performed to remove excess fat from different parts of the body.
HOW IS LIPOCUSTION PERFORMED?
Liposuction can be performed for the neck, abdominal area, breasts, arms, hips, thighs or buttocks. It can be performed under general or local anesthesia. The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia when a high-volume area is being removed. There are different methods utilized for this procedure. The best method for you will be determined by your doctor according to the amount of fat and your body type.
The surgery takes a couple of hours depending on the amount of fat and range of the area where the procedure is applied.
BEFORE THE SURGERY
You are advised to talk with your doctor about your expectations before you decide on surgery. Liposuction does not enable weight loss, but it gives a firmer appearance.
POST-SURGERY LIFE
You may stay one night in the hospital after the surgery.
The recovery period usually takes 3 to 4 weeks. Keeping your weight stable after the surgery will help you to benefit from the surgery.
